Bookbug at Alyth Library. Every Thursday from 1pm – 1.30pm.

Bookbug is the Scottish Book Trust’s national Early Years programme. Sessions are free, friendly, fun sessions of songs, rhymes and stories for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their families and carers to enjoy together. Our sessions are suitable for ages 0+.

There are gentle songs for bouncing babies and loads of chances to move for toddlers who’ve found their feet! There are also stories and probably a few rhymes you’ll remember from your own childhood.

Digital Champion

Need help using the internet? New tablet or smartphone? Having trouble with emails? Our Digital Champion is on hand at Alyth Library to help.

Every Friday and Saturday, with 45‑minute 1‑to‑1 sessions available at 10am and 11am.

Prebook your spot in person at Alyth Library.

Board Games

Thanks to funding from Perth and Kinross Council’s Fairer Communities for All, Alyth Library now has some board games for everyone to enjoy. The games are now available for library users to play during library hours. They have a chess set, a draughts and backgammon board, and Chinese Checkers.

Library Jigsaw Exchange

The Library Jigsaw Exchange service is available at all our libraries, including Alyth Library. Each jigsaw puzzle is complete, with no missing pieces*, in excellent condition and in the original box. The system operates on honesty, allowing library customers to borrow a jigsaw puzzle and return it when they have time; there is no due date. The service is free of charge, with no costs involved, and you don’t need to be a library member to use it. *If you do come across a jigsaw with missing pieces, just let staff know when you return the box.

Dog Friendly Fridays and Saturdays

Eight libraries across Perth and Kinross welcome well-behaved dogs and their owners every Friday and Saturday. As part of the Dog-Friendly Perthshire initiative, Culture Perth and Kinross were the first library service in Scotland to welcome dogs into their buildings.

The Library service recognises the role that dogs play in providing support and companionship to many people across Perth and Kinross, and the help they give to a number of people in social situations.

The eight libraries taking part in Dog-Friendly Fridays and Saturdays are the AK Bell Library in Perth, along with AlythAuchterarderBlairgowrieComriePitlochry and Scone Libraries. All libraries taking part will be providing a bowl of water for their four-legged friends every Friday and Saturday.

Community Use of Libraries after hours

Community groups can now access Alyth Library outside staffed hours for meetings.

To use the library for a meeting, interested community groups should visit during regular opening hours to complete a short registration form. Library staff will be happy to guide you through the process and explain the operational procedures. Please check the opening times of Alyth Library before planning your visit.

Once registered, each group will need to complete a booking form for the meeting or meetings they wish to hold. Groups must also have appropriate insurance in place before a meeting can take place. Insurance can be purchased online in just a few minutes for a small fee. FAQs about insurance can be collected from the library or downloaded online here.
