Newspapers
The Local & Family History Service holds a large collection of local newspapers, dating from 1809 to the present day. There are over 50 titles in all, some cover the whole of Perth & Kinross, whilst others are specific to a town or village.
We are in the process of cataloguing the Newspaper Collection and a guide will shortly be available. In the meanwhile, staff will help you find material of interest. We also have an extensive card index which can be used to find articles in the larger newspapers, searching by place name, personal name or subject.

Newspaper Collection
The Perth & Kinross newspaper collection is extensive, and is a great way to build knowledge about your family, and how they lived, your house, or your local area. We advise reading the key that precedes the listing before you start. The listing can be found here (PDF, 290KB). If you have any questions, please contact our incredibly knowledgeable staff, who will be happy to point you in the right direction.
Top Tip: You can use the search function at the British Newspaper Archive to work out what newspapers and dates you want to view – if these are newspapers we hold we will be able to give you access to either the original or a microfilm copy. Please note you won’t get the full article from this website, unless you pay a subscription. We also have a card index onsite, and this can also be accessed via Ancestry, which is available for free in all Perth & Kinross libraries.
