The second Perthshire Creates’ Summer Design Market expands into 2 venues to showcase the increased number of talented local designers and artists taking part.
The event, which takes place on Saturday 22 June, will run simultaneously at both Perth Museum & Art Gallery and Perth’s Civic Hall and is almost double the size of last years’ inaugural event, showcasing the work of 52 local makers. This event also provides an opportunity for visitors to meet the maker in person and shop for unique gifts, homewares and accessories.
Following on from the successful Christmas Design Market events, this Summer event will see several new artists taking part including 2018 Duncan of Jordanstone graduate Andrea Gardiner, who creates elegant jewellery inspired by her mixed Mexican & Scottish heritage and Anna Kelso, an illustrator creating intensely patterned illustration prints who has recently completed the Perth based Elevator UK Accelerator business programme supporting micro creative businesses.
Other participants include:
• Sarah Halliday, whose artwork and designs are used on a number of items including a set of coasters featuring her popular Perthshire street scenes;
• Kate McLaughlin, who uses her architectural background to create bold and simple sterling silver jewellery collections;
• Kirsty Dalton, who creates a line of contemporary wooden works using traditional wood turning methods and hand carving;
• McLluminati, who creates quirky but useful items made from recycled and salvaged materials;
• Ceri White, who produces richly patterned, contemporary ceramics from a workshop in rural Perthshire.
52 designers and artists will take part in the free to visit event, which runs at Perth Museum & Art Gallery and the Civic Hall at 2 High Street, Perth from 10am to 4.30pm. The designers come from Perth, Milnathort, Stanley, Crieff, Scone, Blairgowrie, Comrie, Dunkeld, Dundee and beyond.
Caron Ironside, Project Officer for Perthshire Creates, said:
“We’re delighted that due to the increased number of talented artists & designers wanting an opportunity to showcase their work, we’ve been able to extend our second Summer Design Market across 2 venues this year. The Design Market is an excellent opportunity to meet the artists in person and enjoy their varied work and find something different and often unique.”
Perthshire Creates, supported by the charitable trust Culture Perth & Kinross is a network and online platform which showcases the region’s contemporary creative activities.
Many of the artists taking part have donated a selection of their work as prizes for a raffle on the day, to raise funds for Culture Perth & Kinross, to help ensure these events continue to be part of Perth’s event calendar.
