Perth library to close for three weeks

Perth’s AK Bell Library is set to close to the public and staff for a period of three weeks from Monday 24 August to Monday 14 September to enable essential and intrusive maintenance works to be undertaken.

The library, which is the headquarters of the charitable trust Culture Perth and Kinross, will temporarily close to allow the removal of the building’s original boilers. Owing to the nature of the works, the library will be inaccessible to both staff and the public throughout the closure period.

Throughout the closure period, North Inch Community Library in Perth will be available to AK Bell Library users for browsing and borrowing books, as well as for those needing access to a People’s Network PC and Princh print services.

Other services hosted at the AK Bell Library, such as Lend & Mend and Local & Family History, will be suspended or moved to other Culture Perth and Kinross libraries during the closure period. Full details will be shared in the coming weeks. However, people who visit AK Bell Library for specific services will also be notified in due course with further details of the arrangements.

Perth and Kinross Council Archive Service and Learning Curve customers will also be affected by the closure, and further information about these services will be announced in due course.

During the closure period, AK Bell Out and About will offer people the opportunity to take part in Bookbug and Storytime sessions at Perth Museum and Perth Art Gallery, bringing these much-loved activities to different locations while retaining some familiar faces. Library staff will also be popping up in Perth City Centre, where residents and people working in the area can find out more information about their local library as well as how to join and access online resources.

For library users who have the AK Bell Library as their main library and may be unable to access another library in Perth and Kinross, loan periods will be extended during the closure period.
