Independence Day In The United States: 250 Years On

Culture Perth & Kinross -

The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, is one of the most significant national holidays in the United States of America. Observed annually, it commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the moment when thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as sovereign states, independent from British rule. Over time, Independence Day has become both a solemn remembrance of the nation’s founding ideals and a popular celebration marked by fireworks, parades, public ceremonies, and family gatherings. To fully understand the importance of the Fourth of July, retired soldier Andy Middlemiss will explore the historical background that led to American independence 250 years ago, and the events surrounding the Declaration of Independence.
