Books, Bodies and Book Deals: An Author Talk with C.L. Janet

Culture Perth & Kinross -

Crime thriller author C.L. Janet takes you behind the scenes of the Chrissy Ferguson Mysteries and Thessaly Grey Crime Thrillers, talking inspiration, characters, research and the occasionally alarming search history that comes with writing crime fiction.

Clare will also share her unconventional publishing journey — from doing absolutely everything herself as a self-published author and finding her first readers to selling thousands of books and eventually signing a publishing deal with Vinci Books.

Then came the real challenge for a self-confessed control freak: letting someone else take charge! Expect books, bodies, publishing, mistakes, lessons learned the hard way and plenty of questions — including the ones you’re normally too polite to ask an author.

Tickets cost £5 and are available at Alyth Library or online via Digitickets.

This is a Friends of Alyth Library event, with proceeds from ticket sales helping to support Alyth Library.

About C.L. Janet

Inspired by her Scottish home, C.L. Janet (Clare) writes murder mysteries set against the dramatic, breath-taking and sometimes unforgiving backdrop of the Highland Perthshire. Complimented for her ability to draw readers into the lives of her characters, Clare uses her diverse life experiences to weave enthralling narratives that place the reader at the heart of the story.

Born in South Yorkshire to a working-class family, Clare dreamed big, leaving her native Doncaster for London at 17yrs of age to study ballet. Dance careers are short and as age crept up, she began to look for something beyond pointe shoes and performances, eventually returning to school to study for a Doctorate in Psychology.

Since obtaining her Ph.D. sixteen years ago, Clare has worked as an academic, lecturing to university students and authoring numerous scientific papers. An enduring dream to pursue more creative writing came to fruition after a family tragedy caused her to re-evaluate the important things in life. Now, she combines the shaping of young minds with writing novels and spending time with the loves of her life – her husband Ian and Nessie, the rather noisy bearded collie.
