Perth & Kinross Remembers is to host a First World War Collecting Day at Strathearn Community Library on November 28th.

This event will be a chance for people to share their collections and if they wish, deposit them in the Perth & Kinross First World War Legacy Collection. The collection will be kept in the Perth & Kinross Archive where it will be preserved and made available to future generations of researchers.

Taking place between 2pm and 6pm, Perth & Kinross Remembers is looking for contributors to bring along original items such as diaries, letters and photographs from the period of the First World War.  The project team is also interested in research and material related to memorial events and projects that were carried out during the recent centenary period, and staff will be at the event to digitise material and answer questions about the project.

There will also be a Family History Workshop at the Community Library, which will provide the opportunity for people to reconnect with their own family history, local history and the experience of those who lived through the Great War. Those attending will benefit from the support of experienced researchers, which will aid a greater understanding and allow people to continue their research independently.

Fiona Hall, Project Officer for Perth & Kinross Remembers said; “The collecting day is a great opportunity for people and families to bring items along that will become part of a legacy collection and help future generations of researchers and local communities remember the First World War. As we move further away from the First World War, it is even more important to remember and acknowledge the impact it had on the people of Perth & Kinross.

The First World War Collecting Day is at Strathearn Community Library, Strathearn Community Campus, Pittenzie Road, Crieff on Thursday, 28th November 2019, 2pm-6pm.
