Perth and Kinross Remembers

Perth & Kinross Remembers was a twelve-month legacy project that acknowledges the First World War memorial work undertaken by local community groups and individuals during the recent commemorative period (2014-2018). Through the creation of a First World War Legacy Collection, alongside a series of talks and workshops, this project aims to collect and preserve these remembrance projects in Perth & Kinross Archive, making them accessible for future generations.

Background:

Over the past five years, Culture Perth and Kinross’s Archives & Local and Family History team have supported a wide range of First World War projects that took place across Perth and Kinross.

During this period, Perth & Kinross Remembers was formed to help groups and individuals across the region deliver a variety of commemorative projects that took place during the 2014-18 commemoration period.

Now in 2019 and throughout 2020, the project will:

  • Gather work and research produced by community groups and individuals during the commemoration period to be placed in the First World War Legacy Collection.
  • Raise awareness of work carried out by memorial groups and individuals during the recent commemorative period
  • Highlight the legacy and impact of the First World War at a local and national level through a series of talks and workshops.
  • Celebrate the achievements of memorial groups and acknowledge their hard work and dedication to their projects, as well as our project overall.
  • Provide volunteering opportunities in rehousing, cataloguing, digitisation and community engagement, allowing volunteers the chance to enhance and develop their skillset.
  • Provide support for community groups on caring for their collections, including advice on digitisation and storing items.

We are grateful to all our project funders for their support:

  • National Lottery Heritage Fund
  • Friends of Perth & Kinross Archive
  • Jimmie Cairncross Charitable Trust
  • Perth Common Good Fund
