The Perthshire Society of Natural Science, or PSNS, was founded in 1867, with women first admitted six years later, with the aim of encouraging interest in the natural sciences through lectures meetings and outings. Its journal was first published in 1880, and continues to the present day. A full set is available in Local & Family History. The Society has also amassed a library of around 2,500 books, mostly published in the 19^th century and with a focus on natural sciences. It is housed in the Perth Museum and Art Gallery
