D-Day 80th Anniversary: The Battle for Normandy

Culture Perth & Kinross -

The 6th of June 2024 will mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day, which saw the Allied forces execute the largest amphibious invasion ever recorded. In 1944, Operation Overlord witnessed over 5,000 ships and landing crafts set down more than 130,000 troops on five Normandy beaches. This action led to the liberation of northwest Europe from Nazi occupation.

Retired soldier Andy Middlemiss will deliver his second talk at Loch Leven Community Campus on Thursday, 6th June at 7pm as the Western world prepares to commemorate this historic event.

In this talk, he will discuss the actual landings and the tough battle for Normandy that followed, following his previous talk on the logistics and preparations leading up to D-Day.
