Picts and Pixels

20th May - 12th August 2017 Perth Museum and Art Gallery

Bring the mysterious world of the Picts to life and explore their time through the latest digital and gaming technology.

Experience virtual reconstructions of the Forteviot Pictish Burial chamber, site of a 3000 year-old Bronze Age tomb, and the Iron Age stronghold of Moredun Top hillfort. Play with history and examine 3D reconstructions of ancient stone heads and mystical symbols carved into stone.

The Picts – the name means ‘Painted Ones’ – were not the savages they have historically been portrayed as. Described as ‘art in motion’ by BBC Scotland’s Lachlan Gouldie, the Picts were a mysterious and expressive people of multiple beliefs. Wonder at the meanings behind the beautiful, enigmatic Pictish carved symbols and examine the craftsmanship of intricate ancient silver brooches.

Join our experts to uncover the events which laid the foundation for the birth of a nation.

Find out more about the Picts and some of the digital technology used in the exhibition at your local library.
