Volunteers are involved in our service in many ways and play an important role in increasing visitors’ enjoyment and understanding of our collections. We can provide an interesting experience for those with a few hours to spare each week.If you are over 16 and are interested in volunteering for us, have a look at our current opportunities below.

Culture Perth & Kinross -

Lend and Mend Hub Volunteer

We are seeking volunteers to support staff in operating and promoting our new Lend and Mend Hub, in the AK Bell Library.The Lend and Mend Hub will be open initially for textile repair involving sewing machines.

Duties will include assisting members of the public using the sewing machines at set times, assisting with the delivery of basic inductions to the Lend and Mend hub, assisting with the delivery of sewing workshops for all ages and assisting with promoting the Lend and Mend Hub at external events.

Volunteers must be comfortable with operating sewing machines. Have an interest in recycling, the circular economy and sustainable living. Good communication skills and experience in interacting with people in different contexts are essential, as is the ability to answer questions and carry out troubleshooting.

Training will be given for the introduction to sewing machines and the induction process.

It would be best if you had the time and commitment to offer approximately 2 hours per week for drop-in sessions and approximately 4 hours monthly for workshops.

Applicants will be required to hold a Protecting Vulnerable Groups certificate which will be paid for by Culture Perth and Kinross.

Successful candidates will be based at AK Bell Library, Perth but could work at any of our venues.

Maker Space Volunteers

We are seeking volunteers to support staff in operating and promoting our Maker Spaces in Blairgowrie, Breadalbane, Loch Leven and Strathearn Libraries.

Duties will include assisting members of the public using Digital Maker Spaces at drop-in sessions, assisting with the delivery of various workshops to all age groups and assisting the Library Development Officer with promoting Digital Maker Spaces at external events.

Volunteers must be comfortable with operating a variety of computers and digital devices, have an interest in creative technologies, such as 3D printing, and have the willingness to learn. Good communication skills and experience in interacting with people in different contexts are essential, as is the ability to answer questions and carry out troubleshooting.

Training will be given, including an introduction to Maker Space technology.

It would be best if you had the time and commitment to offer approximately 2 hours per week for drop-in sessions and approximately 6 hours monthly for workshops.

Applicants will be required to hold a Protecting Vulnerable Groups certificate which will be paid for by Culture Perth and Kinross.

Successful candidates will be based at AK Bell Library, Perth but could work at any of our venues.

Fundraising Enablers

As we approach opening Perth Museum, we have a range of exciting opportunities to help deliver our fundraising campaigns.

Working across our teams in libraries, museums and archives you’ll help deliver our goals by preparing marketing material, assisting with outreach and networking events, meeting with corporate sponsors and engaging with local businesses.

You’ll also help to develop fundraising prospects and explore ideas as a participant within our Focus Group.

This is a great opportunity for people interested in fundraising for culture and heritage, community engagement, cultural enterprise development and marketing. The role is designed to be flexible according to your interest and the skills you wish to develop. We are looking for a commitment of 2hrs per week.
