In 2010 the Fergusson collection was joined by that of his lifelong companion, Margaret Morris (1891-1980), gifted by the International Association of Margaret Morris Movement.
Margaret Morris was a pioneer of modern dance, as well as an accomplished choreographer, artist and author. In 1910, aged just 19 she established her own system for dance training, called Margaret Morris Movement, and opened her first school in London. It is still taught worldwide today.
The rich collection of costumes, artwork and archives at The Fergusson Gallery gives a fascinating, and unusually in-depth, insight into all aspects of her career. As well as examples of her original costumes and costume designs, it includes drawings from both her childhood and adult career, paintings and sketchbooks. The archive holds around 10,000 items of correspondence, plus books, diaries, programmes and photographs.
