Communion tokens

The D L Edward collection of communion tokens was donated to Perth Museum & Art Gallery in 1935, by Mr D L Edward and has been on display ever since. It is a comprehensive collection on a global scale, with examples from many churches from around the world. Its main focus is the tokens of the Scottish churches, used as a means of authorising who could partake of communion at church services. The extent and variety of the tokens is such that they also illustrate in a concise manner the fracturing of the post-Reformation church.
