Get started

There are just a couple of steps required to get your device ready the first time you download:

  1. You must create a free RBdigital account to authenticate your device for use with our service.
  2. Download the RBdigital app, available for iOS, Android and Kindle Fire devices.
  3. With your RBdigital account, login to the app and start browsing our eBook selection.

If you require further information or assistance for these steps, please view the Help and FAQ’s.

Download an e-book

Using your RBdigital account you can login into the e-book service and select up to 8 titles to download at any one time.

Reserve an e-book

The e-book service allows you to reserve (hold) a title which has already been downloaded by another user. If you wish to include your email address with the reservation you will be alerted as soon as the title becomes available.

Renew an e-book

Loans can be renewed up to a maximum of 3 times for 7 days each time, but you can also download it again for the full 21 days if there are no other reservations for the e-book.

For a title to be renewed successfully, the loan period must be over half way through. Please note that renewing cannot be done on any title that has been placed on hold (reserved) by another user.

Return an e-book

It is possible to ‘return’ an e-book once it is taken out on loan. Each title has a loan period for up to 21 days at which point the title will expire and will no longer be readable on your computer or e-reader. To return an e-book before this time, navigate to the download page for the title you want to return. There should be a return button alongside a button to download the title.

There are no charges for ‘overdue’ e-books. Once your borrowing time is up, the title will no longer be available on your device.

Kindle owners

For reasons beyond our control, the service is not available for any Kindle e-readers including the original, Paperwhite and Voyage models. However, the Kindle Fire is fully compatible with the service. You can also find free e-books for original Kindle e-readers from the following websites:

  • Project Gutenberg offers over 42,000 free ebooks; download them or read them online.
  • Bibliomania offers full text editions of over 2,000 classic works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and reference titles.
